Sensible Policy, Not Smaller Handcuffs

Last week we told you about the new federal data that highlights the problem of students of color and those with disabilities being systematically denied access to education by being suspended and expelled at rates 3 to 2 times higher respectively than there peers.  

But, to add insult to injury, these same groups of students are disproportionately likely to be referred to law enforcement and arrested at school.  Too many young people are being pushed out of school and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems instead of given the chance to learn from their mistakes. This phenomenon is frequently referred to as the school-to-prison-pipeline.  Read more here
