On Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25 from Noon–7:00 pm, the ACLU of Washington will be enjoying performance and visual arts, crafts, dances, foods and information from around the globe.

Ethnic Fest is a free event. Bring your kids because this is an all-ages event complete with a bouncy house, bubbles and magic from 1:00-5:00 pm on both days. This event will take place at Wright Park located at 501 South I Street in Tacoma, WA 98405 (map).

The Pierce County Chapter will be there to talk about our work with communities of color to remedy the effects of past and continuing discrimination.

What are some examples of this work? The ACLU of Washington played a leading role in convincing the state legislature to end the disenfranchisement of citizens who come out of the criminal justice system but had been barred from voting because they could not pay off all their court-imposed debts - a practice which disproportionately impacted people of color. We're working to reverse the failed War on Drugs, whose harsh policies especially fall on communities of color. The ACLU-WA also is continuing to combat ethnic and racial profiling by law enforcement, where decisions are made based on the race or ethnicity of an individual.

Stop on by the ACLU-WA booth, and learn about what we are doing to have America live up to its values!
