Washington Won't Discriminate Activist Training Session

Date:
Tuesday, June 20, 2017 - 5:30pm to 7:30pm
Location:
Seattle Public Library, Microsoft Auditorium
As we approach Seattle Pride on June 25, we must not only demonstrate our support for the rights of our LGBTQ family members, friends, and neighbors, but also oppose efforts to take us backward and discriminate against the LGBTQ community. Ballot Initiative I-1552 is exactly the type of harmful measure we must oppose.

I-1552 would eliminate state and local protections against gender identity discrimination in public facilities, require that public schools restrict access to certain facilities based on sex assigned at birth, and encourage lawsuits against schools that try to protect the rights of transgender students. The measure will lead to unconscionable levels of harassment and discrimination.

The anti-trans organizations behind I-1552 hold viewpoints that are minority viewpoints in the United States, and especially in Washington, and we must band together to defeat this measure and make that crystal clear.

This Tuesday, join experts and organizers from the ACLU of Washington and ACLU National for a training exercise on how to canvass and otherwise build opposition to this harmful measure. The training will allow you to start contributing to the work to defeat I-1552 at the Seattle Pride march on June 25 and other upcoming events.

This effort will help ensure that hate is stopped in its tracks, and that Washingtonians continue to protect the civil liberties of all our family members, friends and neighbors. We need you to show up, now more than ever, to learn how you can help protect the rights of all Washingtonians.
