From the event’s hosts:

“This is one of a series of events related to the trial of "torture psychologists" James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen, CIA contractors who developed and then helped carry out its illegal, blacksite torture program during the Bush-Cheney administration. The ACLU is suing the psychologists on behalf of two torture victims and the survivors of a 3rd torture victim who was killed in CIA custody.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: CURT GOERING

Curt Goering is executive director at the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) and former chief operating officer at Amnesty International USA. He has spoken and written widely about the moral and legal obligation to treat and rehabilitate survivors of torture. See http://www.cvt.org/who-we-are/staff/curt-goering

Goering will speak about the consequences of torture on victims and how torture is used to control individuals and communities. CVT extends rehabilitative care every day to thousands of survivors in locations around the world, confronting the prevalence and impact of torture on men, women, children, families and communities and the breakdown its use creates within societies. Curt will talk about healing and the kind of recovery that is needed for people who have experienced the extreme viciousness of torture.
