On July 31, 2007 the ACLU of Washington and the Women’s Sports Foundation sponsored a panel discussion before the Seattle Storm game to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Title IX. Panelists looked at female athletic participation, treatment, and support.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Washington National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) today announced the filing of a class-action lawsuit against Regence BlueShield, the state's largest insurer, for its exclusion of prescription contraceptives from the health care insurance policies it sells to small employers.

Gov. Chris Gregoire today signed into law the "Fair Play" bill (SB 5967) to prohibit sex discrimination in public community sports programs. The ACLU-WA worked for its passage as part of a partnership with the Women’s Sports Foundation to promote equal treatment for women and girls in sports.

Sexual harassment and discrimination are serious problems faced by many Latina women working in the fields and packing plants, and often they do not realize such behavior is against the law. The ACLU-WA has joined with other social justice organizations to form the Amparo Project to combat sexual harassment and other forms of gender discrimination experienced by farmworkers and other low-wage workers in Washington.
