The ACLU supports marijuana legalization and will continue to work toward that goal.  However, we will not be supporting I-1068 because it does not provide a responsible regulatory system. 

The ACLU of Washington has filed an amicus memorandum urging the state Supreme Court to accept review of a case in which an employee was fired solely for her lawful, at home, medical use of marijuana.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ground-breaking ruling that pervasive racial discrimination in the state’s criminal justice system results in minorities with felony convictions disproportionately being prevented from voting, violating the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965.  

The Legislature took significant strides in protecting privacy and extending fairness in several important areas: voting rights reform, domestic partnership rights, privacy for car travelers, and fair play in community sports.

On July 31, 2007 the ACLU of Washington and the Women’s Sports Foundation sponsored a panel discussion before the Seattle Storm game to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Title IX. Panelists looked at female athletic participation, treatment, and support.

A hearing was held in the Senate Transportation Committee on Jan. 21, at 1:30 p.m. on a bill (SB 6499) sponsored by Sen. Ed Murray that would prevent government and private parties from tracking individuals' travels based on their use of toll facilities.

The response of the Seattle Police Department (SPD) to anti-war demonstrations on March 22, 2003, provides one more reminder of the City's need to have in place sensible crowd control policies for major events.
