ACLU Hails New Anti-Discrimination Law

News Release:
Friday, November 20, 2009

After nearly three decades of trying, the Washington State Legislature approved today a bill that bans discrimination against gays and lesbians in housing, employment and other public opportunities. The ACLU-WA was among the organizations that championed this legislation from its beginning in the 1970s. The following statement can be attributed to Kathleen Taylor, executive director of the ACLU-WA:

“We celebrate the passage of the anti-discrimination bill by the state Legislature. This is an historic day for freedom and justice in Washington. Lesbians and gays in Washington state can finally expect equal treatment when looking for a job, seeking a home, or applying for a loan.”
