ACLU of Washington Statement on WA Supreme Court Granting Diploma Privilege

We are pleased that the Court granted Diploma Privilege (DP). It recognizes that the combination of the pandemic along with the civil unrest over police violence against Black lives means that we can't do business as usual. We announce our intention to embrace DP by encouraging those who have accepted offers of employment from us to take licensure through DP. Nor will we hold licensure through DP against future applicants. We encourage them to take the time they would have been studying for the bar to engage in self-care and to volunteer to advance the public good. We think that when they come work for us, they will be healthier and more energetic. We are the ones who will benefit from them taking DP.
 
We encourage other employers to do the same.
