Voters in Washington state made history in 2012 by passing Initiative 502, which legalizes, taxes, and regulates marijuana for adults age 21 and older. The ACLU of Washington has been a longtime advocate for reforming marijuana laws because of the damage these laws have done to civil liberties, including eroding protections against unreasonable searches and seizures and disproportionately targeting people of color. As a proud supporter of I-502, the ACLU of Washington has been working to ensure that the new marijuana law is fully and fairly implemented.
