News Release:
Wednesday, February 19, 2020Today the Voting Rights Restoration Act, SB 6228, failed to pass out of the Washington State Senate before cutoff. The ACLU of Washington had this reaction:
“We are extremely disappointed that the voting rights restoration bill did not pass out of the Washington State Senate before cutoff this evening. Since the Jim Crow era, laws have kept those caught up in our racially-biased criminal legal system from the ballot. The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy and the time to tear down these barriers is long past due. American society is stronger when we eliminate racially-biased barriers to voting and encourage people to take up their civic duty at the ballot box.”
