On October 11, 2018, the Supreme Court of Washington found that the death penalty violates the state constitution. The ACLU submitted an amicus brief urging the Washington Supreme Court to strike down the state’s death penalty system for being arbitrary, unfair, and racially biased. Joining in the brief are 56 former and retired judges from around the state, an organization representing murder victims’ families, faith organizations, the League of Women Voters of Washington, and others.
